On-grid Solar Vs Off-grid Solar
Ongrid Solar System Application
As the name suggest, generated solar power directly connected to grid and supply is ensure only when grid is on, otherwise solar system will not work.
What exactly does it means?
I will let you know in a simple example.
Assume that you have a 10 kwp solar system installed on your roof and it connected to ongrid solar PCU that has capacity to manage solar of 10 KWP in peak hours. So the PCU will convert this 10KWP DC electricity into 10 Kwp AC electricity (due to conversion loss may be possible and depends on PCU to PCU). After conversion, it will be connected to grid. Now once it connected to your incoming grid so a reverse meter is required to measure consumption vs supply. It means you consume electrical power from the Grid and generated Solar electrical power and supply too to Grid (Electricity Board).
Significance of Ongrid Solar System
It simply means whatsoever we supply (GS) to Grid minus whatsoever we consume (GC) will be the final Electric Bill (EB). If we formulate then
Net electricity Bill (EB) = SOLAR GENERATED SUPPLY to GRID (GS) – CONSUMPTION of ELECRTICITY from GRID (GC)
Application
In all Metro city where electric supply from grid is available 24X7.
Demerit
If in your city frequent power cut is there, then our recommendation is not to use on-grid solar system, besides it is cost effective.
Offgrid Solar System Application
Rather than to supply to Grid it is independent system and generated solar power will be saved/stored to a device to utilise it further.
What exactly does it means?
I will let you know in a simple example.
Assume that you have a 10 kwp solar system installed on your roof and it connected to offgrid solar PCU that has capacity to generate solar of 10 KWP in peak hours. So the PCU will store this 10KWP DC electricity into a storage device like battery. Once it stored then can be utilised whenever it is required. No intervention or support system is required through GRID. Yes but naturally it has option to get charged to GRID if SOLAR production is not available.
Significance of Ongrid Solar System
Offgrid Solar system has significance to generate & use the solar power as per requirement of the customer. It has option to be self reliant on power generation vs consumption if measured both properly.
Application
Opposite to ongrid system, it is beneficial where power cut is frequent and demand is much higher than the supply from GRID.
Demerit
It’s a little bit expensive in nature as compared to ongrid solar system. CAPEX is higher
